1. Research and Plan Your Business
   1. There a number of available resources such as S.C.O.R.E., Small Business Administration (SBA)or Small Business Development Centers (SBDC).
2. Get Business Assistance and Training
   1. See same resource entities above or local community colleges.
3. Choose a Business Location
   1. Just like in real estate, its all about location, location, location
   2. Consult the local Chamber of Commerce(s)
4. Finance your Business
   1. Personal or commercial options
   2. Check with local Banks, Credit Unions or the SBA.
5. Determine the Structure of Your Business
   1. From a legal and tax perspective
      1. Sole Proprietor, LLC, Partnership, S corporation, C corporation
6. Register entity with the State (DBA, if business is not your name, or LLC etc)
   1. Secretary of State, Corporation Division
7. Obtain Tax ID Numbers
   1. IRS EIN, Relevant State Tax ID
8. Register for State and Local Taxes
   1. State, County, City, Local (as applicable)
   2. Sales and Use or Excise Tax (as applicable)
9. Obtain City/County Business Licenses and Permits
